Love Foundation’s Ongoing Support for the Nina Manzi WASH Bus in Cape Town

At Love Foundation, we strongly believe in the power of community-driven initiatives to address pressing social and environmental challenges. Our commitment to Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) projects has led us to proudly support the Nina Manzi WASH Bus, a partnership with Viva con Agua South Africa, which provides essential hygiene services to individuals experiencing homelessness in Cape Town.

Earlier this year, I had the privilege of visiting the WASH Bus in Cape Town, where I was warmly welcomed by the Viva con Agua team. Seeing the bus in action provided me with powerful insights into how our collective efforts are making a tangible difference in the lives of those in need.

The Nina Manzi WASH Bus is a mobile sanitation unit offering showers and hygiene facilities to people experiencing homelessness. These services are fundamental not only for physical health but also for restoring dignity and boosting confidence. Given the increased rates of homelessness following the pandemic, initiatives like the WASH Bus are more important than ever. Viva con Agua recently highlighted that around 3 million people in South Africa still lack access to clean water, further emphasizing the critical role of such projects.

Our recent fundraising efforts directly contributed to developing a newer, more efficient model of the WASH Bus. This upgraded version prioritizes ease of use and accessibility, significantly improving the overall service delivery. According to the Viva con Agua team, the new bus has enhanced operational effectiveness, allowing them to better serve the community.

During my visit, I saw firsthand how the bus regularly travels to various locations across Cape Town, strategically choosing sites where complementary services—such as food kitchens and social support networks—are also available. On this particular day, the bus was located alongside a soup kitchen, allowing beneficiaries to access multiple essential services at once and raising greater awareness about the WASH Bus itself.

While the WASH Bus is making a significant positive impact, the ongoing challenges of homelessness and water scarcity in Cape Town remain substantial. These challenges underline the critical need for continued support, expansion of hygiene services, and complementary social assistance programs.

My visit to the WASH Bus provided a personal perspective on the compassion, respect, and dedication involved in this initiative. It reinforced my commitment and Love Foundation’s to continue supporting projects that have clear and meaningful impacts.
